The search for computing technologies beyond silicon took a major step forward in 2013. Stanford engineer Subhasish Mitra co-led the team that demonstrated the world’s first working computer built from carbon nanotube transistors. The achievement showed that carbon nanotubes could serve as a viable alternative to silicon and offered a glimpse of faster, more energy-efficient computing systems.
