Arjun Appadurai is an anthropologist whose work transformed the study of globalization, culture, and migration. Through influential books including Modernity at Large, he introduced concepts that reshaped how scholars understand global cultural flows and transnational identities. His research has had a lasting impact across anthropology, sociology, media studies, and international relations, making him one of the leading voices in contemporary social theory. He was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1997.
