Indian American women entrepreneurs transformed how Indian food reached American consumers by making it increasingly convenient to enjoy at home. In 1977, Bhagwati Amin co-founded Deep Foods, establishing one of the first large-scale manufacturers and distributors of frozen Indian meals in the United States. In the 1990s, Sukhi Singh expanded the market through fresh prepared meals and bottled curry pastes, growing her company to thousands of retailers nationwide. Together, they helped build the commercial infrastructure that made Indian cuisine widely available in American supermarkets, paving the way for new forms of home cooking and culinary exploration.
