Neal Katyal is an American lawyer and constitutional litigator. He successfully argued Hamdan v. Rumsfeld (2006), the landmark Supreme Court case that struck down the Bush administration’s military commission system at Guantanamo Bay. He later served as Acting Solicitor General of the United States and, by 2017, had argued more cases before the Supreme Court than any other minority attorney in American history, surpassing Thurgood Marshall. Widely regarded as one of the nation’s foremost Supreme Court advocates, Katyal has argued many of the defining constitutional cases of the twenty-first century.
