Dr. Meena Seshamani is an American physician and healthcare executive who became the first person of Indian origin to serve as Director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Confirmed in 2021, she oversaw the federal program providing health insurance to more than 65 million older Americans and people with disabilities. Under the Biden administration, she helped implement major expansions in hearing, mental health, and preventive care benefits. Her leadership placed an Indian American woman at the center of one of the nation’s largest public health programs.
