Indian diaspora stories gained a place on America’s most prestigious theatrical stages. Aasif Mandvi’s Sakina’s Restaurant earned acclaim for its portrayal of immigrant life in New York. Mira Nair brought Monsoon Wedding to the stage Off-Broadway, working with screenwriter Sabrina Dhawan to translate her acclaimed film into a musical celebrating Indian wedding tradition. Lolita Chakrabarti’s adaptation of Life of Pi later reached Broadway with a visually groundbreaking production that won three Tony Awards in 2023.
