Cardiologist Dr. Enas A. Enas launched the Coronary Artery Disease among Asian Indians (CADI) study, the first major effort to document the disproportionately high burden of heart disease among South Asians. His research identified elevated lipoprotein(a), or Lp(a), as a key genetic risk factor and challenged conventional approaches to cardiovascular risk assessment. The study transformed medical understanding of heart disease within the South Asian diaspora, sparked targeted prevention and awareness initiatives, and influenced how physicians in the United States evaluate cardiovascular risk in this rapidly growing population.
