Science journalism emerged as a recognized profession in the United States with the founding of the National Association of Science Writers in 1934, an organization co-founded by Gobind Behari Lal. Three years later, Lal received the Pulitzer Prize for distinguished science reporting, becoming the first person of South Asian origin to earn the honor.
