Between 2009 and 2025, Indian Americans assumed an unprecedented range of senior leadership positions across the federal government under the Obama, first Trump, Biden, and second Trump administrations. Vivek Kundra became the nation’s first Chief Information Officer, Vanita Gupta rose to become the highest-ranking Indian American in Justice Department history, and Kash Patel was appointed Director of the FBI. Their appointments reflected a broader transformation across agencies responsible for technology, law enforcement, national security, science, and public administration, embedding the diaspora within the highest levels of the American executive branch.
