Ashok Gadgil is a physicist, engineer, and inventor known for developing practical technologies to address global public health and sustainability challenges. At Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, he created UV Waterworks, a low-cost ultraviolet water purification system designed to provide safe drinking water in resource-constrained communities. His research has focused on scalable engineering solutions in areas including clean water, energy efficiency, and humanitarian technology. In recognition of his contributions to innovation and public service, Gadgil received the National Medal of Technology and Innovation.
