Bhagat Singh Thind (1892–1967) was an Indian-American activist, writer, and lecturer. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, he engaged in a protracted legal struggle for citizenship, culminating in the 1923 Supreme Court case that denied Indians naturalization. Despite this, he remained in the U.S., becoming a prominent spiritual teacher. He earned his PhD in theology and English literature from UC Berkeley, using his scholarship to bridge Eastern and Western thought. Thind eventually achieved citizenship in 1936 as a veteran.
