Dipesh Chakrabarty is a historian whose scholarship transformed the study of colonialism, modernity, and global history. As a professor at the University of Chicago, he pioneered postcolonial approaches to historical writing through works including Provincializing Europe. More recently, his research has connected climate change with historical inquiry, expanding how scholars understand the relationship between human history and the planetary environment.
