Krishnalal Shridharani was a poet, playwright, journalist, and scholar who helped introduce Gandhian political thought to American academia. While pursuing a doctorate in sociology at Columbia University, he published War Without Violence (1939), the first systematic English-language study of nonviolent resistance. His work profoundly influenced American civil rights leaders, including James Farmer and Bayard Rustin, helping translate Gandhian philosophy into strategies for racial justice in the United States.
