Preeta D. Bansal is an American lawyer and public servant. Appointed Solicitor General of New York in 1999, she became one of the first Indian American women to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court on behalf of a state government. As New York’s chief appellate lawyer, she handled major constitutional and public policy cases, helping establish Indian American representation at the highest levels of appellate advocacy. She later served in senior legal and policy roles in the federal government, expanding the diaspora’s presence in American public service.
