Rising to fame through films such as The Thief of Bagdad and Jungle Book, he captivated audiences with leading roles at a time when few non-Western actors appeared prominently on screen. His success demonstrated the commercial appeal of Indian-born performers and expanded the possibilities for global talent in Hollywood. In recognition of his contributions to film, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.
