Uday Singh was an Indian-American soldier who enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 2000. Born in India to a family with a rich military history, he moved to the United States at age 16. Serving with the 1st Infantry Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Singh was deployed to Iraq in 2003 as a Humvee gunner. On December 1, 2003, he was killed in action during an ambush near al-Habbaniyah. Posthumously promoted to sergeant and granted U.S. citizenship, he was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery.
