Subra Suresh is a materials scientist, engineer, and academic leader whose career has spanned research, higher education, and public service. He served as Director of the National Science Foundation, where he oversaw major investments in scientific research and innovation, and later as president of Carnegie Mellon University. Known for pioneering work in materials science and engineering, Suresh has held leadership roles at some of the world’s foremost scientific institutions. In 2023, he received the National Medal of Science.
