Ved Nanda was an Indian American legal scholar and human rights advocate. After immigrating to the United States in the 1960s, he joined the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where he built one of the nation’s leading international human rights law programs. In 1971, he founded the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy, one of the leading U.S. academic journals dedicated to international law and policy. A globally recognized authority on international law, he championed the implementation of the United Nations Convention Against Torture (UNCAT) and helped shape the study, teaching, and practice of human rights law.
